The Bonsai Below Me - (Member photo challenge)

Native Cascades Lodgepole Pine in field soil, collected from top of unnamed cinder cone volcano quarry. The tree was stunted from full exposure and heavy vehicle traffic. Tree is one year in Anderson flat with no styling yet…but may be time to move to pot soon as it seems to have acclimated well.

The tree below me is a Larch…

Artist’s choice…any redwood will do.

Here’s two coast redwoods I collected over the past 2 years. First is a formal upright. The group will be assembled as a forest planting next year.

Been working on this Crabapple for 10 years… doesnt want to behave. Never been showable. Keeps losing important limbs. HOWEVER, it blooms like crazy and has many little tiny red apples.

OK. OK.
How about another (not a maple) in full fall color!

leaves have really reduced!

So the bonsai below is a banyan or clump or forest or anything else that will keep the thread going!! 0_0

Initial planting of a clump of Itoigawa Junipers (my first multiple tree planting) showing their journey from nursery pots to new home…and then after stabilizing a month…first limb reduction.

I had intended to let them reside in new pot longer, but shading of interior began to show signs of weakened interior foliage, so the initial styling was to increase interior light penetration.

And the next bonsai below is… ?
Thank you for posting! Is that Oregon Akadama?

No, good old Boon Mix with 1:1:1 using real imported Akadama. I did this planting early spring and won’t likely use the new Oregon sourced material until February/March.

I am going to do some basic physical tests of it over the next several months to see how it degrades and retrains water, etc.

A pyracantha in the process of being air layered. Unfortunately it’s awkward to get a good picture and angle. The mist in the background also has had some weird effects on the picture. And I still don’t know how I put it up rotated!!

The bonsai below me is a cedar. Artist’s choice on type…

Eastern white cedar. Collected foundation planting (initial styling…. and sorry about the fert tea-bags in the pic.) When I dug up a clump of cedar a couple of years ago, I was going to throw this ‘stick’ in the chipper, as it seemed like an impossible bonsai candidate. But I figured I’d give it a shot. I dunno, maybe I was initially right lol. Anyway, any critiques on it would be interesting (be as brutal as u want!)
The bonsai below me does NOT have green foliage (variegated works too.)
