Live stream ideas - Give us Feedback!

@sam While listening to the Telperion podcast for literally the 5th time I came up with an idea for a feature. Video “field trips”. The information the Telperion dudes had was amazing. It would be even more amazing if we could see what they’re talking about. Basically a melding of the live stream and a podcast…or content akin to the nursery stock trips. Likely not possible all of the time, but that would be an amazing addition to the library.

@sam One more  Under related content for a stream perhaps include the next chronological stream? For instance, I’m watching a stream recorded on Feb. 5, 2019. While the next stream recorded on Feb. 12, 2019 may not be directly related it would be nice to have quick access to it since a lot of the time Ryan will have a little teaser for the next stream that piques my interest. Keep up the great work!

Hey Mike, thanks for all the feedback! Definitely planning on more deciduous streams, and we definitely hope to do more offsite content. I appreciate the feedback on including the next chronological stream as related content–at the moment there’s not really a way to do that with the way the site is coded, as it pulls from species/technique tags in order to show you related work. But you can always click back to the Library, where they are posted in chronological order (you can change the order by clicking “sort by date” in the top corner of the Library).

Oh, I’m usually able to find the next stream…I’m just lazy lol.

Shouldn’t be too hard, tag the stream with a unique tree name. That way you can group all the content belonging to a specific tree so you can see progression over time.

Bring back Peter Warren and Japanese maples! I would love to see how the maple he worked on is doing.

@Sam I’d love to see a Species Quick Reference video where Ryan goes through all of the major species, and spends about five minutes with each one. He could cover a basic checklist like soil mix, pruning approach, annual schedule, watering preference, design, and any other species specific notes. Something that we can go to for a quick info download instead of having to hunt through lots of Q&A’s and some feature content if you are lucky. Somebody would have to keep him to within maybe 5 minutes per species, and maybe put the basics checklist on the board behind him to keep him on topic. This could be an easier task to perform as opposed to him writing out a full species guide page for that kind of reference. Each species could get time tagged below the video just like the Q&A’s. Thanks!

Perhaps I’m Mr Boring here, but when I watch anything, either from the library or live stream, I always have my notebook at the ready. I note down the title, season etc. and should anything come up that I know I might need to see again eg with reference to a specific species of tree I might own, I take a note of the minute the film is up to. That way I don’t have to trawl through everything I’ve previously watched (not that I’d mind of course) to find the nugget of information I need. I now have quite a reference list going that is easy to look through.

Can we see an update on the second nursery stock linden from the deciduous structure stream?

Great Idea!

I also listened to the Telperion podcast over and over again…

Hi! I think I heard that dogwoods need to be pruned at a certain time so I’d like to see a session devoted to all dogwoods from potting to pruning to wiring. I have pink, white and Kousa in my collection. They are young but at some point I would like to know what the next steps are so I can maximize their development. Thanks!

Maybe a feature about un-wiring? I know there’s been a little bit here and there but something we can easily find and review, or re-view

There was a good piece of featured content on unwiring

On the “Covered Wagon 2019” podcast Ryan got quite animated about increasing our use of North American DECIDUOUS trees for bonsai. He also mentioned that they could be easier to collect in so far as less roots are needed for the tree to survive. Demonstrating how this can be done as opposed to the traditional collection of large root ball approach of conifers may give reviewers the information needed to expand our range of native deciduous bonsai. l don’t think this would fill a 2 hour Live Stream but rather a supplementary video.

I assume / hope there is a redwood follow up video coming soon - as soon as they are ready for their early winter work?

I would love for @ryan to cover the Walter Pall hedge pruning method as it’s been a controversial topic.
