Live stream ideas - Give us Feedback!

Thank you for this! This is something we definitely want to explore more - I will make sure it gets added to the list!

We’ve never done a specific video about guy wire, but there are definitely some concepts covered in these two streams:

I’ll add this suggestion to the list for a shorter, more concise feature content though!

Hey Michal! At this time we don’t have plans to release the audio from our videos on public platforms - they’re for subscribers only  But we are hoping to add more free content to our Youtube channel, and are always looking for ways to expand the podcast.

Not a live stream idea, but maybe a shorter feature video…
I’d love to see an update to the garden with some comparison to the footage of the YouTube video “Bonsai Mirai” from seven years ago.

That’s a great idea! In the meantime we do have this one - https://live.bonsaimirai.com/library/video/garden-design

But the garden is changing all the time, of course. We’re doing some expansion and will be sharing that with you all in the near future!

I would love to see a live stream on developing collected stumps in to bonsai, with maybe a progression series showing the stumps in various stages of development.

This is something I have looked for all over YouTube etc and can’t find decent content.

I’m talking about deciduous trees which generally have short fat stumps that are arrow straight when collected and have been cut straight across the top

How do you add movement and interest to something like that over the years and develop the taper and hide the chop.

Maybe you have a collection of trees that started out like this at various stages in their development.

Thanks

@Strooz, Great idea, I sometimes stick on a video while driving just for the audio, but obviously the temptation to have peek sometimes doesn’t make for the safest scenario…

Hello Mirai Team,

I love the “Maximizing Design: Juniper”-Stream!!! Learned so much watching this one. I would like to see more of this kind.:+1:

I don’t know if this has been mentioned here (probably) but I’d like to see a feature on trees that has been worked on in the past. Some are of course coming back with future developement in the streams but it’d be nice to see Ryan walk through the garden and showing development on trees that’s been featured in streams and the progress since that moment. A plus would be if he’d mention the name of the stream it was featured.
Cheers

Yes I think that’s a great idea. I really like when we get to see the garden

I would like to see this as well, both a garden walk through and also maybe a couple of minutes of featured content on trees that have featured in the live streams at important points in their response to the work done.
I am very much learning how different species respond to work and through the year. So for example seeing when a recently repotted tree is moved out of the greenhouse and begiu to be fertilised because it is showing new growth and temperatures are changing or when wire starts to bite in and has to be removed on previously styled trees. Just a couple of minutes here and there with some narrated explanations would be great for learning how trees are handled depending on the signs they are given off.

Transitions. I see a lot of coverage on taking field grown and yamadori and moving them from the collection container like an Anderson flat or wooden box into a final pot, but what about from nursery pots to trainers to bonsai pots? How do you choose the right sized training pot then the right sized final pot? I’m also confused if it is best to develop a tree in a large pot with soil if you can’t plant in the ground, or should you put it in a different type of container or should you get it into bonsai soil ASAP? What trees do you gradually transition from soil to bonsai mix in stages and which do you bare root?

I would also like to see how you all handle a treatment schedule for the month and annually. How often are you applying insecticide, fungicide and compost extracts? You’ve covered fertilizing very thoroughly but what about all the other stuff?

Kind of adding to @Gables here. With winter coming up it’s a great time to start looking for and purchasing pots for the repotting season. This is my first year getting seriously into bonsai and to that end I’ve bought A LOT of nursery stock. Now I’m staring at them wondering what kinds of pots do I put them into next.

As Gables said, it would be great to have a stream or even just a feature covering how to transition your material from collected or nursery stock to the bonsai pot. How do you properly pick the size of a pot. Do you go to a less shallow training pot first or into a shallow bonsai container. What’s a proper width (with the understanding that it’s not just about trunk size). Unfortunately most of us don’t have a room full of pots for us to play around with until we find the right size. :slightly_frowning_face:

Hi,
I would love a session on yamadori. How, when and where to collect for some representative species to maximize survival rate.

I think a lot of members are collecting with varying success rate, my self included. To reduce the amount of good material that dies due to improper techniques increased knowledge in this area would he highly valuable. Maybe even Ryan Knight could sidekick on this:-) The yamadori aftercare video I have seen several times - please make it a full circle and also give us some help in collecting.

In particular common juniper is of interest for me personally. I have found a lot of old ones with a lot of interesting deadwood I also got the permission from the landowner, but I am reluctant to collect as I am afraid I will kill them.

Hi, I’d love to see more about design. Perhaps to further explore the fundamentals of good design in bonsai, perhaps using some of the more established and developed mirai trees. This might work in terms of a guest artist such as peter warren or todd schlafer, critiquing one or more of the mirai trees.
Regards

I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the ramp up of the deciduous streams. Please throw more into my eyes, ears and brain. I would love to see some content on tropicals as well. Ficus, jades and (because I just bought one lol) water jasmine. Keep up the good work guys!
