Hi all,
Hoping for some help on two struggling shohin lodge pole pines. Both had very good spring growth, but in the last two weeks I am seeing significant needle die back and loss of some secondary branches. New needle browning at the base then dropping. There have been several very hot days lately here in the Carolinas. The problems began last week when I got back from vacation. My neighbor was watering well only once a day; two of which hit 97 F. Any thoughts on how to halt this?
Thanks!
Mike B.
Did you check for mites; a white piece of paper below foliage. Jiggle foliage. Little black dots. Schmear on paper. If red streaks , you’ve got your answer
Thanks for the comment EBV. No spider mites. Update from this morning - I slip potted both out of their shohin containers and they we badly root bound. Like the bottom half inch or so was a solid mat of roots with no soil; I think the roots were cooking. I put them in larger containers I had on hand. Not 100% sure this is the problem but this action will be a benefit.
