Harvesting coastal redwood seed cones

Question for the group, I’m hoping to harvest some coastal redwood cones but I’m unsure of the ideal timing on connection? Can any one confirm the months when it’s ideal to harvest.

In case it matters I’m harvesting on the east coast in Charleston SC. Hoping to get seeds adapted to this climate and germinate here.

I quick on-line search indicated early fall (Sept/Oct) as the cones turn brown since they mature in one year.
