Can anyone tell me briefly what is happening with changes to Mirai going forward? I have seen a number of references suggesting that Mirai is about to cease to exist in the form that we have all learned to know and love, and will become a nonprofit with the mission of tree conservation? But what exactly does that mean? My first clue was the reference to the current tree sale being the last one …
Anyway, just a bit confused and wondering exactly what form Mirai is going to take from this point forward, and what that means for we members, and if anyone out there has a better handle on what is happening …
Thanks in advance for any insights.
This is news to me but I am interested as well
I agree that radical changes are taking place.
The reality is that only impermanence is permanent.
Change always occurs regardless of our wants and needs.
Perhaps his personal life is changing and that is spurring changes at the garden.
Mirai as we know it is done.
No more Super Tuesdays, stream will be different, etc
We never know what is actually happening even in our own situations.
Obviously this sale will generate a lot of revenue for Mirai and I wish him the absolute best in whatever his life brings him.
I am late to the game as far as Bonsai and Mirai, but the content will always remain until they take it down, the lesson are there to enjoy and rehash as we see fit.
The app, the calendar are revolutionary.
While he probably wasn’t the first to use Eden products on Bonsai, he definitely was the first to use Apical in this manner and moving into the next generation of American Bonsai this will probably become the new norm for nutrition.
Regardless of if he stopped today what he has brought to the table is revolutionary , healthier trees, less pests, and a moving away from the traditional box are all win wins for us and the bonsai community
Understood. Just to be clear, though - I’m not passing any judgement - just looking for information.
Ryan has addressed the future of Mirai on both Streams and Podcasts without supplying details which he says it is a bit early to do.
Though i mid the Tuesday Streams, i have watched over 125 of them, amd taken extensive notes on over 112 of thrum, i have just scratched the surface on what’s available.
Yes, i know that there is a transcript available, but taking notes is how i learn best. It generally takes me about 10 hours to take notes on a2 hour lecture. The amount of information i have retained allows my to work on my trees with greater skill and knoweth.
I find Mirai to be a barging at the price charged. I havebought diuresis from it’s most popular competitor, at a cost of at least a couple of years worth of Mirai tuition. If i had not taken in person lessons worth a week known matter and immersed myself in Mirai streams, i do not feel i would be anywhere as far along as i am now.
“Ryan has addressed the future of Mirai on both Streams and Podcasts”
What/which streams or podcasts? Or can someone just summarize what he has said - like - in a few sentences?
I think there is some misunderstanding here of what has been said. Mirai is not going away. The annual tree sale is going away and future trees sold by Mirai are going to go through a nonprofit. But Mirai itself is not going away. The Super Tuesday streams are gone. Most of the new content right now is going on to the app. But Ryan has promised new and better things to come. There is still so much content amassed here that I am working my way through, much less going back to glean new insights. I think we can trust Ryan based on our shared history to keep adding value to our bonsai lives going forward.
I have no idea where Mirai is headed. That’s both exciting and part of the problem. As subscribers, we deserve better.
I’ve been a member of the Mirai community since the earliest days of Ryan’s live streams (Super Tuesdays). That’s mainly why I joined. Yes, Ryan is one of the top bonsai artists in the US and by every metric, world class. But his biggest strength in my opinion is that of “teacher”. Those Super Tuesday streams simply had no peers! And while the archive library remains accessible, in no way does it fill the void.
There’s a proverb that states: “Change is inevitable…except from vending machines”. How true. And in this case I can appreciate why. But I wouldn’t be honest if I didn’t say I’m disappointed. Mirai has gone down a path with little appeal to me. The Mirai app is no substitute for a two hour stream with Ryan leading the way. Even if I found the app helpful (which I don’t but won’t get into why), I find the “new” Mirai experience less personal and lacking in interest.
To me the art of bonsai represents an opportunity to be creative and to respond in the moment, rather than be a slave to tasks spewed out by an app. There’s something to be said about spontaneity…and plenty of time for structure elsewhere in life. I don’t want that when working with my trees. It feels rote and artificial. And it’s certainly not what I signed up for years ago.
Yes, Ryan has revolutionized the bonsai learning experience like no one else. Just wish he had stayed with what I believe he does best (teach). While I’m likely to step away when my annual subscription comes up for renewal, I certainly wish Ryan and subscribers who remain in this community all the best.
Hi everyone,
I wanted to take a moment to clarify any assumptions or misinterpretations. As many of you know, our focus has recently been on building Mirai Mobile, an extension of Mirai Live that is included with your membership. Mirai Live remains Ryan’s comprehensive body of work, and it is not going anywhere. The library continues to be a valuable resource for all the education he’s set out to share.
Super Tuesday has had to shift, and we’re still in the process of refining how we can best serve the community moving forward. If you feel like you’ve been left in the dark, it’s simply because we are working through these refinements. We aim to provide clear updates once we have more solid plans, and we greatly appreciate your patience during this time.
While we’ve been focusing on expanding content for Mirai Mobile, we’re actively developing new material for all members. You can expect fresh content soon, and we’re committed to ensuring the community continues to have access to valuable and engaging resources.
If you’re feeling dissatisfied with our current offerings, please remember that Mirai Live has covered a wide range of species and techniques over the years, which can still be revisited and applied to your bonsai work. Our goal is always to provide value, but if you feel your needs aren’t being met, we completely understand and hope you find the resources that best support your journey.
As mentioned in this stream: here
Mirai Live will continue, but our annual tree sale will not follow the same format. Future tree sales will be run through our nonprofit, which is dedicated to conservation and supporting the very trees that bring us all together. Since this new format is still being developed, we’ll share more details as they become available.
If anyone else here has any unresolved feelings or questions, please let me know so I can help provide any additional insight to clear things up.
Thank you for your continued support and understanding.
