This was my first bonsai tree. I don’t even know how old it is, but I wish I knew what I was doing because it could be amazing now. It has to be at least 10 years old. It’s now starting its journey to a root over rock composition.
i had a pinyon yamadori die (tree was awesome i was pissed!!!) so i kept the trunk and made this epiphytic design to make it look like the schefflera killed it (a la ‘strangler fig’ i’ve seen in cambodia angkor wat)
Just stopping in to say that what you’ve all done with mallsai is really incredible I don’t have one myself but I’m half tempted to go rescue one from a store just to see if I’m up to the challenge!
I got these as a single “S” tree from a grocery store about 4 years ago. It was just like the ones Ryan demo’d on the live stream. I first air layered the cascade part off of the base, then air layered the tip of the cascade part later.
