Starting my 5th year with Mirai

Time has really flown by with bonsai. This year I took a picture of every tree in my collection (49 trees in total ) and I just wanted to share for people who are maybe new to Mirai or bonsai, that trusting the process is hard in the beginning but it is so rewarding when you get to look back. Here are a few of my trees I have had from the start of my journey with some before and after pictures. I hope others join in with their journeys as well.

Coastal Live Oak (collected Jan 21’)

Coastal Live Oak (Nursery stock May ‘21)

Procumbens Juniper (March ‘21)

Pygmy Cypress (Jan ‘22)

Melaleuca Nesophilia (March ‘22)

Schefflera (March ‘21)

Chinese Juniper (Angelic Blue)

Chinese Elm (Feb ‘22)

(Tree on the left)

California Pepper Tree (collected June ‘22)

Brazilian rain tree (May ‘23)

Muranaka Japanese Black Pine (May ‘22)

Thanks for looking

The transformation once you get it is something spectacular. I too noticed it not long time ago playing with a tree I bought more than 10 years ago - my absolute first tree I purchased from a bonsai supplier, starter tree of a pencil thickness. I do remember desperately wanting to create a bonsai while looking at that probably 5yo woody seedling thinking ‘how on earth do I turn this into a real looking like tree in a miniature form..?’ Only in 2018 joining Mirai was a start of a long journey. Last November while styling it I spent probably longer time looking for the photo of it the day it arrived by post than styling it but once I found tge picture I couldn’t believe my eyes. Far from show-able but far from what it was too. Nearly 11 years and I realized ‘I know how to turn a woody seedling into a tree in miniature form’
