Here’s one I’ve been working on for a few months. It needs a better pot.
Very cool!! Thanks for sharing, has your rosemary flowered?
Here is one that was presented at the Trophy in February. It was pretty remarquable.
Yes, in my picture you can see some flowers on the tips of the branches. It gets a lot more though.
Great photos - thanks for sharing.
I’ve always thought that Rosemary would make great bonsai.
@TobinMitnick
I’ve understood that Rosemary in the ground should be grown dry - they don’t last long if they receive too much water. Do you know if the Ben Oki is receiving any special treatment?
@Heliostar
Do you know how old the Trophy entry was?
@bensandersstudio might have an idea about the Ben Oki Rosemary!
My rosemary doesn’t like it when the soil is dry. I let it get dry and it started turning yellow. So, now i always keep the soil moist. I water it before it drys out.
This rosemary is really nice, thanks for sharing.
I know this an old thread but I just scooped up a decent size aged rosemary 30+ years container grown. Seems like the information on rosemary is out there but not consolidated in the threads …any advice on repotting timing, particle/size, pruning timing or anything and in relation to the zone/temps that has proven to be repeatable would be greatly appreciated.
Would love to know how to repot rosemary as I have my eye on one or two really old ones but scared of digging them up because I have been told the roots are really delicate and don’t like being messed with. Anyone have any information on this?
I have a couple of smaller ones and the thing I have found is that they need some winter dormancy. I put them in my greenhouse that is kept just above freezing (we get some temps around 0F/-18C most winters). When I kept them inside they would be fine over the winter and into the spring and then decline and die over the summer.
I have the same question on when is the best time to repot Rosemary. I have heard early / mid summer, similar to Olive. But also have heard November. Also heard that they do not like a lot of root pruning. I just purchased a weeping Rosemary Bonsai maintained and styled by Roy Nagatoshi, owner of Fuji Nursery ) Glenoaks Blvd, Sylmar, CA for the last 20 years. I have it slip potted in temporary plastic pot to get it acclimated to Phoenix. When I get it into a show pot I plan to have it more a semi-cascade. Pot suggestions and color are appreciated. Thanks Alan
I repotted mine in late Spring (April in SoCal) and it recovered quite well. I did some moderate root reduction to ensure success.
