Proper orientation of front in round pots with 3 feet

This may be a silly question, but is there a proper/accepted way to orient the front in a round pot with 3 feet? There are only two choices - either center the gap between two feet as the front, or center one foot as the front. Anyone?

I believe it depends upon both the size of the feet and the image you want to project. If the feet are small, then a single foot in front will look unstable while a wide foot will look more stable. Putting two narrow feet to the front will look more stable side-to-side, but is less stable for a tree that leans forward. I suggest you play around with the foot placement using a couple of different trees.

It sounds, then, like either is acceptable depending on various factors, such as those you described. I had been concerned that there was a strict “right” and “wrong,” especially for showing/competition display.

Thanks for the input!

Ryan breaks this down in on of his ceramics streams or lectures, I feel like the more recent one. I think Marty pretty much covered it, but there’s the vid if you want the deeper dive

Oh hey!!! I think about this a lot!!

I’ve got a few cool rounds that have very off centred feet that force me to think about how to use it

I think it boils down to: if you want the tree and the pot to look stable, give it stability by making the feet appear stable.. If you want it to look unstable, destabilise the foot placement.
