Monterey Cypress

A friend reposted this photo from his friend Vito Palmismo on Facebook and I thought it fit in well with the recent Kasumi Kinoshita Monterey Cypress stream. Vito had posted it in hopes of the current wildfires coming under control.

Beautiful photo. Would be nice to replicate that in bonsai form.

Hello Friends,

I am hoping to continue the discussion on Monterey Cypress. I viewed all Ryan’s videos on the Kinoshita Monterey Cypress, but I do not think it got into appropriate times and seasons for structural wiring and design work. Ryan conducted the repot in the winter so I am guess that is best. Any thoughts and information would be amazing.

I’m hoping to see the Kinoshita Monterey Cypress make a come back on the stream as well. It is one of my favorite trees at Mirai! Hopefully they bring it back to the stream this year!

How different is it than other costal cypress (costal elongating species)?

Feels like when everyone wanted Ryan to work on a Japanese white pine and he kept saying the actions and timing of a 5 needle pine are the same from strobis, limber or JWP.

So worst case you could try diving into the costal elongating species and probably not be strayed too far off direction? I don’t know that for sure just a thought, good luck!
