I would like to see a stream on developing 2-3 year old seedlings. Propagation has been covered extensively in a lot of places, but I’d like more knowledge on how to guide both my deciduous and coniferous seedlings in the early years.
Could we have a stream about the lovely new greenhouse. Some insite into some of the design choices, materials used. The heat bed info was great, I feel this too is a topic that is notvery often talked about.

That‘s a great idea,
Max
@Robin @lbranner Stay tuned for that in the coming months! We’ve been capturing lots of footage
@Bonsai_Bentley There will be more carving! We promise.
@chuckp - all great ideas - all already on the list and being planned for!

I did not hear which rooting hormone or gel was deemed to be superior from the rooting experiment from April 2019. Did I miss it or was it discussed at a level higher than I have access to?
I don’t know if this is worthy of an entire stream, but I would like to hear more commentary on creating movement in branches after wiring.
Ryan has this technique of putting bends into smaller branches where he holds the end of the branch and puts movement in by manipulating the branch while holding the point of the bend with his other hand. I’ve seen others do it (YouTube) and I think I can mimic it, but would love the stream of thought comments from Ryan. I’m guessing he has done this so many times that he doesn’t even give it much thought.
Wanted to say that the Forest Repotting stream was an excellent job, Mirai team! You turned 4 hours of work into 1 hour of fantastic video and information! THAT is why I will be a member for a very long time!
I was actually excited when the tree was settled into the pot again. Kind of like when I work on my own trees. Or maybe it was the 3 cups of coffee I has while I watched this morning!
I would love to see a stream about the nuances in design of different species. For example: how does a pine branch look like and whats the difference to a juniper branch or a spruce branch…
Hey Mirai Fam,
I have a couple of ideas for streams.
The nuances of a green house/cold frame. What are ideal things to make a greenhouse/cold frame. What are some pro’s and con’s. What ryan learned from the old greenhouse vs. new greenhouse. Ideal height for a generic house/yard. ideal position if any for a placement of a greenhouse/cold frame. etc.
dealing with diseases more so of any kind. example: phomopsis. how to deal with it and how to prevent it. While in a greenhouse and pre-storage and post storage of over winterization.
This is probably unrealistic but I thought the Mirai Team would at least get a kick out of it:
My son (almost four yrs old) has been watching Mirai videos with me and he loves Troy. If we could get a library filter for videos with Troy in them that would be awesome!
Its clear that Live Stream and the forum are largely about winter hardy trees. However, would it not be enjoyable to have a beautiful tropical tree to admire and work on indoors during the dead of winter !?!?
To this end, I would love to see some more Live Streams on tropicales such as bougenvilla, the diverse ficus family of small leaf trees, etc. I enjoyed the brilliant Live Stream of Juan Andrade some time ago. Perhaps invite other artists who have devoted their bonsai careers to tropicals for similar presentations ?
Thanks so much for the exceptional quality of Live Stream and the amazing educational resource it has become.
Barry
Hey Barry! We totally agree with you - we would love to have more features on tropicals as well! We just don’t really have any in the garden, for that very reason you cited - working on them indoors. At the moment, we just don’t have adequate space to house tropicals. We of course hope to get more input from experts on tropical bonsai in the future. I apologize for the lack of content on this front. We hope to add more in the future!
I could recommend a bonsai professional in Puerto Rico if you are interested.
Hi @Sam,
I’m sure it’s probably been suggested, but can you get Lyme to do some pot making?
Hey Andy! That would be super fun - Lime is actually no longer working with Mirai, otherwise we’d definitely do that. But you can find him on Instagram @portland_bonsai
Thanks @Sam,
Anyone else who could build a pot would be great.
That’s a shame. It’s a strange world
If that big Acer campestre (hedge/field maple) is still at Mirai I’d love to see a further development video of it!
Hawthorn, Oregon white oak and everything there is to know about Greenhouses.
