Hi all! Just wondering if you guys know if theirs is some resource on how to correctly cut a branch? I know for junipers you have to take to account dieback, is that the same for all? Do you cut flush or leave a stub and how does it vary in different species? Trying to keep my trees healthy and pretty.
Any info is appreciated!
It’s always species-dependent, but what you’re looking for is the branch collar—where the tree will naturally compartmentalize and die back to. Occasionally, with heavy water flow, a clear collar won’t be present, and an intermediate cut is needed. The size of the branch is what is going to matter for these situations. when in doubt leave it long let it compartmentalize then come back and clean it up
