What could be causing a branchlet to die off? The rest of the tree is healthy and green. No visible signs of insects and no signs of fungus.

When did you wire the branch?
Chances are it died from damage when wiring. Doesn’t take much on a branch that thin.

When wiring, it is critical that you protect the point where a smaller branch attaches to a larger branch. It’s all about the amount of force that is applied to the spot where they join. The smaller branch will give in to movement pressures while the larger branch will not. All of this give is magnified where they meet.
