I took a trip to the Landis arboretum with my brother in law yesterday. Fred the director of the arboretum and Dan my brother in law are both avid giant tree hunters and have many credits on the New York state champion tree list as well as some national champs. Fred informed us about this group of ancient red cedar in a nearby town. He told us about repelling down the cliffs with a group of people to measure and verify the age of these trees. So we drove to a dead end road and hiked up a near vertical path rising 700 feet. The hike was worth it see these beauties some pretty nice pitch pine to.
