Time of Day Repotting

Spring is here, well in the desert it went from 70’s in the day to mid 80s. But back to 70’s next week. So I am repotting a few trees.
Is there a better time in the day to repot?
If it is going to be in the mid 80s in the afternoon, would it be better to repot in the morning before temps raise? Or later in the day after the temps have dropped so it has the night to relax?
Most are tropicals.

Thanks

Well I would recommend doing it somewhere col and shady. I suppose the morning would be fine the main thing is the trees should have been watered so there not in a state of drought . And then when you are working the roots have a spray bottle of water on hand if the roots start to look dry give them a little sprits so they don’t start to delicate. Hopefully this helps.

Also. After repotting no wind no rain and no direct sun for a while. I wait one month then gradually introduce to outdoor weather

Thanks, I will keep a spray bottle handy.

Thank you. I don’t have to worry about rain out here in the desert. But, I will put in shade and out of wind.

I would repot in the mid to late afternoon. You will have more potting time
Stay out of the sun.
No wind.
What dessert are you in?

Hi,
Thanks. I will definitely stay out of the sun. And keep them in the shade for a week or so.
I am in Palm Springs, CA. I think it is part of the Sonoran Desert.

I am curious about your location as I live in northern Calif.
I also have a place in Palm Springs.
I have toyed with the idea of someday moving there, but have always felt that my trees could not survive there.
Am I mistaken?

Also.
I am totally new to this correspondence.
It is the first time I have replied to anyone’s post, so I hope I am doing this correctly!

Hi, Well it depends on the trees you have. Many trees will not do well here. If you go to the Phoenix Bonsai Society website they have a list of trees and how they do in a desert climate.
Phoenix is a little far from PS, but the climate is somewhat the same. In summer when it is triple digits for 3 months, you have to water 2-3 times a day and use shade cloth.
But there are some trees that do well here. Bougainvillea, jade, Texas Ebony, boxwoods, lantana etc.
It is a learning curve for me. I was used to growing in Los Angeles.

Bonsaibear.
Thank you for this information.
I will look up the site and see what they have to say.
The majority of my trees are junipers and pines.
A few maples and elms and a beloved dawn redwood.
I lived in Los Angles for many years, began my bonsai addiction there, and was fortunate enough to be a student of John Naka’s while I lived there.
I am finding Mira to be a very helpful, source of information and inspiration.
One other thing about repotting.
Others may disagree, but I have found that Superthrive is a very helpful recovery tool.
If you have not used it, give it an after repotting try.
Best.

Hi,
Not sure if pines would make it down here. Junipers have a hard time also.
You mean Superthrive after a repot when you water everytime?
I have never done that. I do have some Superthrive.

Thanks

Bonsaibear.

Not every time, maybe once a week.

I don’t know how often you water, but I would, once a week, water in the Superthrive.

Jim.
