Hello. I got this juniper at the Midwest bonsai show and I like the thickness and style as it’s much different from anything else I have and I think there’s potential. I wired a few branches today (not shown in this photo) and flattened out a couple pads on the right side. I am thinking of having the branches move to the right but bringing them down/horizontal rather than them growing more upwards. I am conflicted on the left branch. I don’t know if I should just X it and make it Jin and keep the other branches flowing right with decreasing as you move up so it creates the apex slightly to the right.
I don’t know if I should have any branches moving to the right but keeping them smaller or going 100% to the right…
I mean I don’t know if I should have any branches going left or just have them all flowing to the right. Most branches are already favoring the right but some in the middle can be wired left or right
Nice material. Two suggestions so far. The thickest trunk should be tallest. Need to decide base to tip, all other apices should be shorter based on thickness of trunks. and second tree base is pretty two dimensional right now. It needs to be turned a Bit. Trunk Needs Foreground and background. More views would be helpful
Thanks for the reply east. I do prefer it turned clockwise just a touch so I positioned as such. As far as the largest branch being the apex, I don’t know that I’m accomplishing it. I did apply some wire and laid out some branches. There r still branches in the middle I haven’t gotten to yet. I have a hard time picturing multiple apexes rather than looking at the tree and one large continuous foliage mass. I don’t know, it’s a start. It’s always so hard for me to figure out branch placement. The ones going right were easy and I’m happy with.
Good morning all. The last groups of photos accentuate the inverse taper. That’s a no no. I like the view from above. Interesting clump style if it can be done
I’m not sure that the Jin works for me. I’d be incline to remove it or shorten it. I really like the shot where the tree is turned a quarter to the left, that improved the taper of the larger branch on the right. I’d also be interested, when you repot, how it would look if you brought it more upright with the left branch just past vertical..
I’d reduce the jin to half the size of the branch directly next to it…and maybe create some deadwood/live vein action on that same branch directly next to it.
