Remove grafting paste from cuts?

Hi folks! I made these cuts about a year ago and covered them with liquid grafting paste. The grafting paste is now – obviously – black and solid.

Will it flake off on its own? Should I remove it myself? If so, how – and what time of year (does it matter)?

Thanks!

Leave it on, it will dry up eventually. I use kiorinal… green and white tube. I never remove, it either dries up or the tissue expands beyond its elasticity and falls off anyways.

I appreciate the feedback! You’re sure? It’s been a year, and it’s a wet climate.

Also, once I tried to work some deadwood and re-wound cuts that had the paste/liquid on it. Total folly, it’s gunky and clogged up my rotary bits and I spent more time removing the stuff from the bits than working the trees.

Yes very sure, even in wet climates. Wet environments lend themselves to rampant growth and tissue expansion. The wound sealant (liquid) will still lose moisture and elasticity. It will fall off or dry enough to be easily removed by your finger nails.
