Post Stream Discussion - Yamadori Juniper Repotting

The sculptural spruce repotting video has a good walkthrough of the technique.

Thank you I have a juniper that in the very likely scenario will need this technique to achieve the new front.

The Mirai way… (chant that…)
Generously, lay the soaking wet LONG fibers vertically up the slope, in a tangle horozontally. Use off hand to hold everything. Gently, with a sharper chopstick, poke / tuck the fibers in and under where ever possible.
Sprinkle WET akadama on top. Chopstick in. Carefully and shallow.
Repeat, building up a net.
Used this on a very large elm that went into a very small pot… Needed the crowned serface roots to survive. Two weeks, and it’s holding really well.

All the important roots are below pot edge. Didnt want the new fine roots on top to die until the bottom roots get going better, next summer… I might drop the whole ball down. That involves cutting a dollar sized root…
I also sprinkled with surface moss spores and tucked thumbsized chunks of live moss in judiceously…
