Late winter prune, from start to finish. Any advice is welcome. Going for a naturalistic style.
Hey. Nice tree
The thickest leaders need to be the tallest leaders otherwise the thinner branches will overtake ‘best line to tip’ as I think Ryan would say. Bend branches at leaf drop. Maybe that’s all you do this year. I put black line maybe where you trim. Good luck
My thought was to let those thicken some before cutting them back, so they are more in proportion with the trunk. Unless you’re thinking they are thick enough.
You can repost and get more opinions but height and girth are super important Tallest has to be thickest Second thickest not as tall etc The tree will be in better proportion with my suggestions I think
I think you and @Eastbayvet are both correct…The branching hierarchy needs to be how eastbayvet suggested and I also think I would let them thicken for another year before I cut them back.. So personally I would let them run until leaf drop in the fall and see if the transition is a little closer to what your chasing.
I understand what you are saying, but these are not branches. They are sub trunks branching will develop next year and following years. I’m still growing the basic structure of the tree.
