I would like some help on my Mugo pine. Trying to shorten branches and I’m getting good back budding. Just wondering if bottom should be closer to trunk and apex taller, more pine tree like. Or should it be a dome shape?
Nice looking tree with good movement in the base. Given the size of the base I would say keep it small and compressed. First thing I would do is fix the structural flaws, and by that I mean anywhere you have three shoots coming from one node, reduce it down to two. For example the first set of branches lowest in the tree is a “bar” branch, including the trunk that node has three shoots coming from it and will create a lot of swelling and inverse taper if not fixed. So I would cut off one of the two branches in that initial set. It’s hard to say which one without knowing the front of the tree.
