Japanese black pine in development

I just rewatched several of the multi flush pines streams but had a question. With a JBP in development that I am looking to add primary branch thickness and build out secondary branching. How do I handle it in terms of pinching, pruning and bud selection?

Short answer, for development, just let it grow until you get the thickness you want. No pinching or candle cutting. You can reduce branch nodes in the Fall down to 2’s or 3’s, but realistically the more foliage mass you have the fast it will develop. Most of the extra will be removed in favor of ramification once you start transitioning to refinement.

Thank you, that’s what I thought but it’s always helpful to hear it
