Does anyone know if this is fake or actually possible to do? if not fake how is it done?

Actually possible. Lay it on the ground and wait.
If you have a cone that has begun to open, pack some peat in there, then wait.
Given the volume of cones produced by a pine, you can narrow your selection to the ones that look the best.
Still, this is an accent curiosity. Once the trees develop, they’ll rip the cone apart.

I saw this same thing at a show in Japan November 2017. I was about 3 to 4 years old and still in the cone. We thought it was a hit. Give it a try - sure to be a hit at your local show in only a couple of years!
Could also “just” bury the cone and after about a years growth carefully dig it up. Easier to keep watered this way during sprouting.
