Here’s a short documentary I made about Bob Shimon and his process of collecting redwoods along the Mendocino Coast of CA. If you don’t know him, Bob is a pioneer of using this species for Bonsai and really doesn’t get enough credit for all he’s done for the hobby. I have purchased many trees from Bob, all of them high quality. I do not know him personally, but all my interactions with him show what a good person he is. He cares about bonsai but just as important, the environment and sustainable collecting!
He’s very conscious of the environmental impact. Only takes trees that are collectible and leaves no trace. His survival rates are also through the roof compared to a lot of other collectors.
