Here’s a before and after of a California Juniper I just finished styling. The ‘Mirai Process’ has been an invaluable tool in helping me work through trees and figured I’d share this one with the community.
I also made a YT video walking through the process… a lot of you will find the approach very familiar. Give it watch and a comment if you dig the tree.
Man, I’ve really enjoyed seeing your work over the past few months. I dig your style. Keep em coming!
I was also curious if you’re sourcing a lot of your material locally (I think you’re west coast?) or could recommend folks you’ve purchased from who ship? I’m desperate for higher quality raw material here in Tennessee.
Thanks Andrew, very much appreciate the kind words man.
For the most part I source locally… although I have purchased a few trees that had to be shipped – with mixed results.
Depending on what you’re looking for…
Jon White and Dan Yobp over at High Desert Bonsai collect some great material. Dan is based in PA, which isn’t too bad and they do a good job shipping.
Ed Clark at Round Valley Nursery is also a great resource in Central CA. He probably has some of the best nursery material in the country.
Tom at Driftwood Bonsai also ships if I’m not mistaken. He’s got some great nursery material as well – Ryan even styled one of his junipers on the stream a while back if you saw that.
And then there’s Andy Smith at Golden Arrow.
Between those four, you’re bound to find something worthwhile!
