Where can I find and what kind of color boards are being used for the sticky traps for boarers ?
I think they hand make them and use a gallon of sticky glue that they brush on after the paint dries.
I saw it in a video but I don’t remember which
If I remember it is like a paint stick with thin wood or thick cardboard painted to the correct color and then painted with the sticky insect glue, which if I remember correctly can be purchased on Amazon or at local farm supply stores.
Just my memory and I could be totally incorrect.
You will have to be more specific on the tree / borer moth / fly your hunting. A sticky trap lure is bug specific.
The sticky trap will catch anything than wanders by…
Ask at your local outlet…
.
It may be more efficient to spray for the borer larva than catching every flying thing that happens to wanders by…
I’ve been told several times that systemic sprays wont kill a active borer. Imadacloprid did a number on the larvae eating the cambium layer on my large Jacklin Hiller elm. Not untill I saw the dead bark and dead wood, though. It is now a feature…
K
I just watched the video it isn’t card board I looks like plastic that is mad in the same fashion in white green and purple. Already order the sticky glue
I’m rather committed to avoid pesticides if at all possible. That said I have several spice of pines and juniper . I live in the California Central valley.
Do you have a link to the video??
No but it’s in the mirai live archive just search for sticky traps only a few things will come up and it’s Ryan showing he ow to make them . Just didn’t get exactly what the boards are made of.
Kurt,
You sprayed when you realized you had a borer large in your tree? Did you get it in the hole or just general spray? Do you think a drench would be worthwhile in the time frame the larvae would be actively eating?
Thanks! Danielle
Shot hole borers are a nightmare down here
What are you doing for prevention?
