Sieve Reccomendations?

Any sieve recommendations out there? I was hoping Mirai would sell the one Ryan uses lol. Wondering which options people are using out there that work well, and have nice 1/4 to 1/16 in mesh.

Thanks!

I build my own. 1/4” wire mesh is fairly easy to find. Window screen is about 1/20”. 1/8” is harder to find locally, but I bought from Amazon (I also use it for the bottom of my grow boxes and to cover drainage holes).

For soil sorting? Or to build grow boxes with? What are you using it for?

I use this 3 piece set for 1/8 -1/2 in the deep variation. You stack all three on a 5 gallon bucket and it sorts 3 sizes at once, with shaking, rocking in a garden cart, etc.

Then the fines from the bucket go through the 1/12” which is slightly larger then a 1/16” which works for me. They have a 1/20 but I think it is too small.

The smaller sizes need the most shaking. Fines go in a bucket for muck or on the lawn.

I use the wire mesh for sieves to sort the soil. I also have 1/3” and 1/2”. I build a stack that will always catch a few particles on the largest sieve. Keep in mind that sieves are most efficient when they are lightly loaded, but that reduces the throughput. The optimum compromise appears to be for about 2 particle thickness on the sieve. That is for the most heavily loaded sieve in the stack.

I also use the 1/8” mesh for box bottoms.

For those who have adapted the much superior SI system I refer to my sieves as 1, 3, 6, 9, and 12 mm when I label the bins - i.e. 3-6 mm for particles that pass the 1/4” (6 mm sieve), but are top the 1/8” (3 mm) sieve.

Finally, I have two homemade sieve stacks - a smaller one that is about 12 x 18” that I do by hand and a larger one that has to be supported that is about 18 x 30”.
