Several years of repotting into smaller and smaller pots have reduced the Pellaea rotundifolia (button fern), Cyperus alternifolius (umbrella plant), and Hydrocotyle verticillata (dollarweed). For comparison purposes, there is a frozen green pea next to this composition.

This composition was created at Lucy Sakaishi-Judd’s kusamono workshop almost three years ago. She made this pot. Plants are Rosa wichuriana v. poterifolia (rambler rose) and a variegated ivy.

The geranium was collected from the Pacific Northwest and is shown with Bellium minutum (miniature mat daisy).

A Japanese bamboo shaped container with Pleioblastus pygmaeus (dwarf bamboo), Equisetum scripoides (dwarf horsetail), Leptinella squalida ‘Platt’s Black’ (brass buttons), and Viola labradorica ‘Purpurea’ (labrador violet). Mother Nature added the last plant!

These plants are used a lot in my kusamono compositions: Ajuga reptans ‘Mahogany’ (bugleweed) and Carex flacea ‘Blue Zinger’ (carnation grass). This is Vicki Chamberlain’s very unique pot.

This Bunzan “boat” pot is very narrow and about 5" long. The blooming succulent is Crassula exilis ssp. Cooperi.
