I am assuming this will heel, couple young trident maples got nibbled on by a vole? I was actually planning on moving them back in the ground for a couple years. Assuming nothing changes and nothing I can do?

I reckon you can either put cut paste on to help the healing, tridents heal quite well but you will have scars or you can ground layer it once you put it in the ground by wrapping the bottom with a few coils of thick wire. I’ve also seen cement being used to create a nice base you basically will spread a layer of cement around the base and as the tree thickens it will create a “natural” ground layer. Of course you need to put soil above the cement.
