Pitch pine questions

Hey I have this little collected pitch pine and last year was its first full growing season with me and it was pretty weak. I thought it would expire actually. Fortunately it’s growing really well and I’m not actually sure what to do with this particular area of growth .

I would prune back to one or two shoots that may be useful in the overall design. You may end up removing them later, but you don’t want to have all of them causing a swelling.

I have grown PP for bonsai for the last few years. I usually rub/pluck of the epicormic growth on the areas that I do not desire it.

I plucked off these shoots today.!

So the shoots are basically suckers? And the tree isn’t banking on those shoots maturing? I just want to make sure I’m not hurting the tree because it wasn’t very profitable last year.

Yes. Those are suckers. The tree isn’t counting on them for energy to live .
