Particle size for a Japanese maple

I have to repot a Japanese maple this spring. I will go for solid akadama. But what particle size is recommended? Should I left the 1/16 in or not?

Thanks for your help.

The standard advice would be to leave the 1/16" in. The exception would most likely be when you are trying to promote very strong growth to thicken the trunk or branches when the more open space without the 1/16" would allow more oxygen and the ability to fertilize more strongly without clogging the soil.
