My attempt at Dynamic Design

Here is my attempt at Dynamic design. The apex naturally set itself up to intersect with what I chose as the defining branch and so I brought it back in the other direction to offset the weakness of the base.

Looks compelling, but I must confess the after photo is far too dark for me to understand how it was really styled. Any chance you have a photo with more exposure?

Came out great I think. If you’re looking for suggestions I’d put some movement if p

ossible in defining branch and bring back some foliage to cover straight horizontal portion off distal portion of defining branch

I did a quick auto-enhance on Scriv’s photo but it’s still difficult to see what’s going on.

I personally think going harmony would be more compelling for my taste. But the story I am seeing is a tree driven mainly by phototropism reaching for sun on the side of a cliff while wrestling the elements.

I was just rewatching the dynamic design lecture and one of the fundamental clues is does your defining branch and apex start to overlap before you bring the apex back towards the base…in this composition I believe your defining branch is about 2 inches shy of where you would want it to prevent the composition from pulling itself apart…so that means keep your apex going left for another season to get the length then you have a shot at bring it back to counter balance the weight… again this is nit picking, obviously your skilled and this is well done as is but to be seeking feedback I assume you’re looking to squeeze everything out of the material

Thank you for the feedback. I totally forgot that I posted on this forum and all my Mirai notifs go to my spam folder for some reason so I missed your initial post.

Re Dynamic - I was under the impression that the overlap is determined by the direction the defining branch is moving in. I need to go back and watch that lecture again. But I thought I remember Ryan saying that if the defining branch is moving left and the apex sits directly over the defining branch or left the defining branch, that counts as ‘overlap’ and it’s a candidate for Dynamic. Could be wrong though.

I also made a YouTube video if you’re interested in seeing the before/after and the lines in better detail given how dark the picture is.

I am not certain to be honest you have a solid point and I should rewatch myself. Videos awesome
