Glossy black slime on tree roots

I have some nasty looking black stuff on the roots of my Larch. I’m also seeing tiny black flies around the tree and in the soil. Does anyone have any idea what they might be and how to get rid of them?

I would say Slime Flux aka “wet wood” , but Larch is not a usual host of this bacteria.
Research, research, research…

Hi @Cpog
What kind of fertiliser have you been using?

Japanese larch, or Western?
I have never see this on either.
Your name tag doesn’t say where you are?

I’m just going to say its probably algae, soil is a tad to damp and not drying enough between watering.
