Ficus Nutrient Deficiency?

Hello. I’m still very new to bonsai. I started in January. Please, bear with me.

I’ve got this Ficus religiosa. All the new leaves have been coming out with what looks like a nutrient/chemical deficiency. Almost like it doesn’t have enough of the right ‘stuff’ to make all the chlorophyll that it needs. I don’t know if this is a bad guess, or what’s really happening. I see no pests of any kind, either. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Here’s a pic of what the new leaves are looking like…

I am not that familiar with ficus but have you checked for spider mites? They can cause stippling of the leaves. If you have not already done so, do the tap test. It is outlined through this link. Spider Mites — Bonsai Society of Portland

No spider mites. It’s system wide. They don’t get any worse and old leaves haven’t been affected at all.
I got some advice that it might be a potential iron deficiency. So I’m going to try chelated iron. :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

Are you in the USA?

If you are convinced it is a nutrient deficiency (I don’t know enough to help you out)

I can only say that my ficus are responding very well to Eden Veg fertilizer.
They are looking better and thriving but I will admit I have not tested them yet.

So for $30-$40 you might find a possible helper that could be applied at a small dose over the winter, if your plants come inside.

1/4-1/2 tsp MAX per gallon
If you buy it off the Eden bluegold garden website it will come with application rates on the label

And this is Only a suggestion, my ficus looked like crap on bio gold, then I tried rapeseed cakes and another pellet fertilizer with no luck.

After a few does of the Eden they took right off and look much better and are putting out nice growth.

I have no affiliation to Eden
I just use their products and believe they work.

Good luck

Thanks for the heads up. I am in the U.S., yes. I’m in Utah. So yes, it’ll be inside under the lights for winter. To be honest, I’m new, and I was too scared to put it outside this summer. Even still, it went from a 6" seedling in January to a 25" tall tree with a trunk just shy of 1"!!! Kinda blew my mind!!! So part of my deficiency thought was attached with the enormous amount of growth.

I’m thinking about using eden products. We’ll see how this chelated iron treatment works for an acute treatment, and I’ll figure out how to move forward as it hits it’s next growth spurt.
