Does anyone have any experience with collecting Eastern Hemlock? If so, have you had better success with a spring collection or a fall collection? Ryan stated that in the PNW they almost always collect Western & Mountain Hemlock in the late summer/early fall. Does this also bode well for Eastern? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
I have collected Western Hemlock and Mountain Hemlock in September, October, March and April, with 100 % survival.
Important factors are root ball and after care

I have collected a handful of small pretty young eastern hemlock in northern Wisconsin. All were successfully collected in May and I think even one in early June. Not sure of any “secret” to success but I kept a decent amount of roots and some field soil and kept in part shade after collection. A couple which I want to remain very small and fine I put straight into 100% akadama. My typical soil mix is 3:1:1 for hemlock.
