I swear I saw this on Reddit. Made my skin crawl then just as much as it does now. Also, my vote was also borers. The holes plus the swelling of the tissue attempting to heal itself is the indicator for me.
Check out this thread. Not saying that’s what you have. Your pic just reminded me of this one.
Normally if you have had a borer infestation there will be cloudy sap coming from those areas.
To me they look like remnants of small branches that have died and fallen off.
I agree with MtBakerBonsai. On some of the holes there is a small amount of callousing indicating a cut rather than insect attack.
Thanks for takin a look! Tree is otherwise healthy. I’ll just keep an eye on it for now.
