I didnt create this specifically for bonsai unfortunately it was geared towards house plants…I have only ever seen a few bonsai in anything similar but I think it is worth exploring. I want bonsai on my walls !!! the back is full water proof and there are drainage catch basins same way a “self water pot” is designed. Is there cultivation reason this is a bad idea that I am not thinking of? I would design the shelfs to accommodate trees in a different fashion but hopefully you can get a sense of it from this.
This is still drying and not finished but it was a labor of love to get it here, so iI thought I would share and fish for some feedback. The wood will be painted white or the color of the trim of the room it ends up in. Its large 28x28 and the weight is about 7lbs, which is quite light for what it is but it will need a stud, thats for sure
Very cool. It looks like an extension of some of Michael Hagedorn’s (crataegus bonsai) work where he has planted trees in unusual ways including one that was designed to be hung from a post.
oh wow. These are all beautiful, that last one made me feel things. this human experience is wild. Looking forward to how the 28x28 composition evolves! The potential in a landscape in miniature for client examples or living landscape blueprints could be something i start consigning you for hahaha… I got a waterfall job coming up where i am using Bonsai techniques to create a scale but also provide the sound the client wants! There could be something to this! all n all well done!
Thanks I appreciate that , as much as I wish I could take credit for the last two those are Michael Hagedorns. Shit I wish I had trees like that to be creative with .
So if you get stuck on the waterfall reach out my pond and waterfall I used bonsai like scale to make it feel natural. I even have trees in my landscape that have had root work done and are in grow bags to keep them roughly at the scale I want them for the landscape (I am also always keeping them in the game to be possible bonsai) I visit them every 3 years to repot in root bags. Obviously I have some I let be trees but I am always playing with scale. Always happy to help if I can.
I will share the 28x28 when I get the acid stain layers completed…ran out half way through layer 1
This is a really cool idea… as long as you can keep enough roots and water often enough to support the trees, I don’t see there being any horticultural issues.
