These are all really cool. What is the material you’re using if you don’t mind me asking?
Thanks I appreciate that, its a mix I have been working on for about 2 years…but basically it contains cement base and has different additives for strength and that makes it all weather strong.
This series seems to have much more robust edges. As much as I appreciate the more complicated (delicate) edges I confess to questioning their durability. Did I see that you are working without a kiln? What material are you using? I appreciate the development your series illustrates.
It is.a mortar like medium that contains cement and special additives for strength and extreme temperatures, sometime I will add fiberglass or a meshing at the original layer. The durability has held I have some delicate sculptures in my yard for over 3 years now. I leave them out in the winter in all conditions as a test case. The additives make it frost proof to -40 and heat tolerance is not an issue. It is more like sculpting than the way clay pots are made.
I think it is in this thread, Ive use it for some decorative garden steps I carved to look like stone with very intricate details on the steps and its held with foot traffic and winters.
Super creative pots, really like the realistic appearance, you’ve definitely got the technique dialed in. If you ever have a surplus that you’re willing to part with I’d be interested in trying out some. I’m in coastal SC and there’s no native stone around here so you have to purchase any you want to use and it’s not cheap.
Great stuff, really like the round bluish one!
Thanks I appreciate the kind words. The blue one is also my favorite and am hoping to make 3 more of them in the next two weeks. Size is 8-10 inch size at 2.5-3inch deep, for this size I typically charge $135+ shipping (which wouldn’t be bad for you). Stay tuned or let me if you want to claim one ahead of time.
Funny thing an editor of some cactus magazine asked to use this picture for an article …I dint have the heart to tell her that there is going to be a tree in soon
Here’s another one that’s pretty different . Cropped screenshots for a recent video, sorry for the imagine quality .still always open to feed especially the constructive type ![]()
Have you considered adding drain holes closer to the outside areas or just enlarging the wire holes in these areas?
You know the material, structural strength, issues etc.
When I see a pot with only one drain hole I scratch my head..
That whole balance of water and oxygen discussion.. I have a tendency to drill, drill, drill my pots to ensure drainage and air movement and often stick with plastic or mica for the ease of putting in new holes. Many commercially available pots lack drainage in the corners.
Just a thought, not a criticism !!!
That question aside, very very nice. Radical, cool, awesome are the words that come to my mind.
Peace
It has 8 drainage holes around the edge it’s a great point thanks for bringing it up
The shape of this one reminds me of a abloni shell
