Prunus domestica grafting

Hi all!
So I have two P. domestica specimens produced from an air-layer in 2020, both have the same problem addressed herein, I will focus on one of them:

(here in june 2022)

They grew healthy in training wooden containers and were repotted in 2023.

After growth flush it is vibrant and healthy, and I have been able to start trying to ramify it by post-flush pruning starting in 2023

(June 2024)

However, I can see that the old wood, as I have learned here at Mirai, can’t produce new growth and a leggy structure is unavoidable without grafting.

(here in March 2024)

On top of that, some parts of the trunk have dead areas as you can see here:

So I gather I have to graft to be able to push new growth inside…? But I just can’t find grafting information in Mirai Live apart from Junipers and Pines… Please help.

Prunus are commonly grafted - mostly nice fruiting cultivars on stronger roots. I believe they are also grafted for bonsai to rejuvenate older trees to get flowering on older trunks. As such, I am guessing they are fairly easy to graft. It looks like there are quite a few things on the web regarding general grafting of prunus.
