I picked up some trashadori last fall. They have started producing shoots this spring. On one of the trees has had a couple of small shoots sprout and then turn black, almost like they were burnt. There were two very small shoots that I removed and didn’t think too much of it as the rest of the tree looked healthy. This morning I noticed another shoot with the same symptom. Anyone experience something similar? Any ideas as to what it might be and how to treat?
Hi Greg. You said you picked some up last fall. Does that mean they had been dug then as well?
If they’re recently collected, it’s probably down to the fact that the roots aren’t yet in a state to keep up with the transpiration rate via the leaves. Quite common with freshly collected trees. Keep them if the shade, and if you have a shaded poly-tunnel for higher relative humidity and reduced transpiration, even better.
Hi Ralph. Yes they were dug last fall. I was actually driving by and they were placed by side of the road for garbage collection. They are in a sunny spot, and we have had some warm days in Dallas area. I will move to a shaded area. Thanks so much for your help.
First off, love that you used the word “trashadori”. I agree with Ralph. I’d put it in part shade for now until it develops the root system needed to support itself in full sun.
