I think the heat issue could be solved by lining the inside with 1/4” closed cell foam. Keep it down from the lip 1/2” so you don’t see it above the soil line.

I’m not especially concerned about heat transfer. Partially because I’m in a very temperate climate, temperatures in summer would be up to 20C or in the high 60s F. But also there’s a small amount of iron to absorb heat relative to the volume of the pot. Certainly things could be different in higher temperatures but I’m sure that could be addressed by watering(?).

That is a very cool area. Here in SoCal inland, direct sun on days of 30-40 C, and sometimes with higher spikes, the pots would need protection. Metal pots would otherwise add a fun, new dimension. Hope they work out.
