Hi Folks, I heard Ryan mention in a podcast something about Corten Steel Pots. Has anybody come across such a thing for bonsai. Are there corrosion issues or issues around the iron/steel oxidizing and affecting the roots? I’m considering having a go myself with my trusty arc welder.

I’m more concerned with heating the roots. Metal is a good conductor of heat.
Hi Bill, heats not a big problem with me, I’m in a very temperate climate in Ireland. I suppose one way to find out is to go ahead with a trial.

I HAVE run across cast iron Chinese and Japanese plant pots with drainage holes… real good OLD cast iron. They did not appear to be rusty. The Iron leached from them would should not cause problems… I did see a tree in one in Tokyo. Ive avoided buying one.
