Larch Grafting Advice

I lost the back branch on one of my Japanese larches (L. kaempferi) in last summer’s heat wave. Does anyone have suggestions about the best way to graft on a new branch. I searched the forum and the only larch grafting info I found was in the Live Q&A (I’m not subscribed to that). I have seedlings that I can use for approach grafting but would need to wait until next year to try a thread graft.

Hi @MartyWeiser,
All I can tell you is that I tried approach grafting on Larch and failed, but that probably says more about my technique than the larch! They move water and can thicken quickly, so grafting should work.

Thanks. That was my thought as well, particularly based upon Ryan mentioning airlayering in one of the streams on larch.
