Hey all. First post here. I’m relatively new to bonsai - been practicing since last summer. This black pine was my first “serious” tree I got last August. It did need. Repot when I got it, which I did back in March.
Ever since the repot, things got better then got significantly worse with discoloration and stunted candles. I’ve since started letting it dry out more between waterings (I was overwatering this guy for a long time especially during the winter. I’ve since learned much of my mistakes about watering, losing 3 trees this spring from it)
My question really is, other than 10-14 day fungicide treatments and letting it dry out between waterings, is there anything else I can do to help heal this guy up?
Thanks in advance for your help. And please be gentle
The damage to the needle will not heal. You have to wait for the old needles to shed naturally. I don’t like to treat any with chemicals my self and it should be . They are not good for the trees health . Keep at it we have all been threw it.
Did you bare root it?
Remove all the soil?
Remove a lot of roots?
I am no expert
It looks pretty bad
If in the USA buy a quart of Eden Hydro and once done with your fungicide cycle
Hammer that thing with daily foliar sprays with Hydro.
Add hydro to the drench water.
Are you adjusting your PH to 6.4?
Or are you hitting it with untreated city water?
You didn’t fertilize it did you?
All questions to help you see if you did something incorrectly.
Never bare root an evergreen!
Never fertilize a sick plant!c
Hydro is the best chance of turning it around that I know of.
I don’t work for Eden, when Ryan talks about Apical recs to improve the health of the tree, 99% of an Apical rec is Eden products.
Hydro AKA Eden Base is a blend of essential oils designed to promote root growth and overall health.
However you must finish your fungicide cycle first. And heed the warnings on the label about using this stuff with chemicals.
Hopefully you just used neem oil or another organic fungicide. Applying hydro with chemicals is risky business.
Shortly after this post, I confirmed it’s indeed dead and has been for a bit most likely. It was not fertilized last season and overwatered this winter while badly needing a repot.
Just a whole mess of issues. Thank you for your response, though.
