Heat wave. Shade cloth needed?

Out here in the desert, we put up shade cloth from May-November. Starting with 50% then higher as needed. Last year I had 70% in July-Sept and everything grew great. Still had to water 2-3 times a day.
This week we are getting temps in the mid 80s and the UV index will be 6. My trees have been in full sun since November. Should I put up some shade for this week? I am in zone 10a.
I noticed that my Lantana had some yellowing leaves. It has been fine since I got it last summer.
Of course it could be something else up with the Lantana.
Is leaf burn cause by the heat, the sun, hot roots?
Thanks so much.

I feel like in the desert a UV index of 6 shouldn’t be too detrimental if your trees have been in full sun already. I think the desiccation comes from high heat and UV index plus low humidity and wind (at least here where I live 9a/b) 80 and a UV of 6 sounds about perfect for growth to me. Also if the trees are getting a break of cooler evening night temps, they should fair well.

Roots getting too hot is a problem to try and avoid. That will make it really hard for your tree to move water and cool the foliage.

Thank you. I did put it up and they get direct light in the morning and later afternoon. When this heat wave is over, it will all come down. My lantana and pomegranate are in small containers, so I sunk them in a larger one for these days.

I was paying attention to my weather station yesterday and we his a UV index of 8 around noon with temps in the 70s. It was very tolerable on my south facing patio. I would guess your trees will be fine through this heat wave

I looked at mine. Next week 85. And I thought the heat wave was over. Guess I better get my repotting pushed ahead.
