Looking to see if anyone has had luck using Foxtail pine Pinus balfouriana as material in bonsai. Seems like the red bark could look really stunning. If I had more space I would buy some seedlings, they seem hard to find though.

It is very closely related to the other bristlecone pines (P. artistata and P. longeava) that I would expect them to require the same culture and training. The Wikipedia page states that these can be hybridized, but hybrids are rarely, if ever, found in nature (my guess is due to valleys between the mountains they inhabit even if they are failry close together).
