Bougainvillea woes

Not sure why this Bougi is dropping leaves. It’s been very hot here in Florida and I heard Bougi like to be on the dry side. I’ve been watering once a week.

my bougie drops its leaves when it gets really dry and then it shoots out flowers. I remember a stream where they talked abought this happening. im no expert but I think a little more water is all it needs.

It’s a tree in a small container. Surely once a week watering isn’t quite enough even for trees liking dry condition esp if it’s very hot as you are mentioning. I would suggest immersion watering and then increase the frequency of your watering as @OldWorldArtisan is suggesting.

I’m going to second @CoffeeCherry’s suggestion, and water more often. Unless that tree is getting a lot of rain, you’re keeping it too dry. In the summer heat, I water my bougies daily. If I don’t, they wilt and drop leaves. Especially my white and red variety. The pink one does better in heat, but still won’t go too long without water.
