Bonsai for Desert

There are lots of species that do great in arid regions for Bonsai cultivation. Here are a few that I work with:

  1. Mesquite | Prosopis glandulosa
  2. Desert Ironwood | Olneya tesota
  3. Palo Verde | Cercidium spp.
  4. Bursera fagaroides
  5. Bursera microphylla
  6. Operculicarya decaryi
  7. Operculicarya pachypus

There are many more out there to choose from, but the aforementioned ones are all brilliant material.

Here is a link to a thread I started on Bursera fagaroides in Bonsai culture | Bursera | General Info & Bonsai Cultivation

Here is a photo of one of my larger Bursera specimens that will be at the US National show this year. For scale, the pot is 32" wide by 19"deep by 3" high.
