Acer deshojo shriveled leafs

Hi everyone!

Over a month ago I bought a couple small maple trees including 2 deshojo species. One was planted in the garden and is doing great. The other one is planted in a pond basket and started off great with nice red leaves. 1 or 2 weeks ago the leaves started to shrivel so I moved it out of the sun and made sure it had enough water. It doesn’t look like it made it but here are some pictures. Any ideas how to save the deshojo? Don’t want to over react by repotting again etc.

Let me know your thoughts!

Hi Jasper, greetings from a fellow Dutchie. You don’t need to repot again. The issue was moving it into (full?) sun right after repottting. It’s adviced to keep trees in the shade for at least two weeks after repotting. I’m not certain about the horticultural reason. My guess is that the water uptake needs time to reestablish itself at full strength. And maples are prone to sunburn. It needs a lot of water because the thin leaves have high evaporation. For now I’d suggest moving it into the shade and hope for new buds to develop.
