Picked this rather sad looking Hemlock up from a nursery left hidden out the way definitely think it’s a bit pot bound , appears to have some age too it with lichen in quite a few areas. I picked it up very very cheap in the hope of bringing it back to a much better state than it’s in…
This looks more like a mountain hemlock to me. I use a product from “fertilome” a liquid chelated iron. It often helps green up yellowed trees. Also, I dose sparingly. Good luck with this one
Things I have learned by killing hemlock:
Never bare root a hemlock… 1/3 at a time.
.
Keep them out of the sun above 85F… they like cool.
.
Be conservative in trimming. They will die back.
.
They like a heavy moss. Probably for moisture retention… leave it on.
.
One of my favorite trees to work with. Wish I still had one! I did by a small dwarf varity this spring… Its browning out, even as we speak!

Do you think I should do an emergency repot or wait till the spring?..I am leaning towards waiting till the spring.
Watch the (several ) hemlock videos. They are all gold… Fall hemlock and design…
Now is a safe time to trim. Be consertive…
Draw up a ‘future wish’ design (or, several…)
.
Wait for spring repot window. I would rake out 1-2" more of the surface and refill with bonsai soil.
.
Now I want one…

Do you think it would be reasonable to put some wire on this as well?
